Hirst Magnetic Instruments was featured as a case study in the recent Institute of Physics (IOP) Physics powering the green economy report. There were 19 case studies in the report which was presented by the IOP at COP 28 in 2023.
Hirst produces equipment to enable the decarbonisation of transport via electric motors which by a large involve permanent magnets. Hirst is a world leader in magnet characterisation equipment and magnetic measurement. Hirst won an IOP Business Award in 2020 for its magnet characterisation technology, the Pulsed Field Magnetometer (PFM). The new self demagnetisation field function (SDFF) in the current generation of PFMs enables a measurement improvement in high-yield volume manufacturing of permanent magnets.
